The gameplay had received several changes to make it unique comparing to other ''Super Smash Bros.'' installments. More notably the amount of ending lag was decreased for the cast, making combos nearly inexorable. It also introduced the most playable characters in the series and in gaming history, with 400 playable.

''Super Smash Bros. Intensity'' received universal acclaim, citing it as one of the greatest fighting games of all time. Praising goes to the characters, gameplay, and quality of the game. The game sold a total of 42.71 million copies as of August 1, 2021.
It was widely considered to be a big project due to many elements from previous Smash titles returning in this game. :'''''Bold''''' indicates a new mode added.
''Super Smash Bros. Intensity'' has many game modes available to play. While all modes return from previous Smash titles, new modes have been applied to expand gameplay of ''Intensity''.

The biggest game mode added to ''Intensity'' was a new story mode that continues the events from the Subspace Emissary in ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl''. With many characters in the game, the story's engine is designed to be like Subspace Emissary, where fighters go into a side-scrolling adventure fighting many enemies along the way.

Below, here are the returning game modes in ''Super Smash Bros. Intensity'', along with new game modes.

===Smash===
  +
*Smash
*'''Smash''': This is the most common way to play the game. Up to 40 players can fight in a battle. The main goal is to knock out your opponents off the stage. There are four basic types of gameplay in Smash, available in free-for-all and Team Battles:

  +
*Special Smash
**'''Time''': The match continues until the selected time limit expires. Whoever had the most KO’s at the end of the match wins. If there is a tie, then a Sudden Death match occurs with high damage handicaps at 300% and bombs dropping a moment later.

  +
**Custom Smash
**'''Stock''': The match continues until one is standing alive. Players are given a number of stock lives with them. If they lost them all, they wouldn't be able to spawn back.

  +
**'''Customize Play'''
**'''Coin''': Coins are the main goal to collect. The match is set with a time limit. The player with the most coins when the time expires will win. If two players have the same coins, then a Sudden Death match will occur.

  +
**'''Random Smash'''
**'''Stamina''': Instead of damage, health points are used to show how much health points a player had before they are KO’d. The match ends when one is standing alive.

  +
*Tourney
*Special Smash: This submenu allows you to customize Smash gameplay in many ways. They include:

  +
*Rotation
**'''Custom Smash''': Change conditions for fighters (size, metal, curry, slow, etc.) to change the way they fight. The same rules apply to this mode.

  +
*Rules
**'''Customize Play''': This mode allows you to modify gameplay elements and set adjustments to characters and stages. Records will not be saved however.

  +
===Game Modes===
**'''Random Smash''': This mode sets everything to random. First, players choose their names, and the match is ready. There will be random characters, stages, gameplay, and items.

  +
*Classic Mode
*'''Tourney''': This mode tests your skills to show who’s the best player in your list. Up to 200 players can compete in this tournament. Any rules can apply to this tournament.

  +
*Smash Run
*'''Rotation''': Returning from ''Brawl'', This mode is useful if you have 4 players or more. Fight each other in battles while taking turns.

  +
*Training

  +
*Events
*'''Classic Mode''': Fight random enemies while battling your way to the final. Designed to look like the Classic Mode from Brawl. Difficulty selection is available before you start.

  +
*All-Star Smash
*'''Smash Run''': Returning from ''Smash for 3DS'', Smash Run works the same way it behaves in the previous installment. New Smash Run enemies have appeared too.

  +
*'''Horde Smash'''
Training: Training mode is now more optimized and shows more options for the player to use while training. More CPU behavior is also added.

  +
**'''10 Horde Smash'''
*'''Events''': Complete many kinds of events telling specific objectives for the player to do. 2 players are also allowed with different events applied to them.

  +
**'''100 Horde Smash'''
*'''All-Star Smash''': Returning from ''Smash 4'', this mode makes the player to defeat every playable character in the game, with a rest area included.

  +
**'''Timed Smash'''
*'''Mob Smash''': This mode allows the player to defeat a group of enemies from few to many. The type of enemies are the three on previous installments. There are a few types of gameplay style to this:

  +
**'''Endless Smash'''
**'''10 Mob Smash''': Makes the player to defeat 10 in all with 1 being a normal fighter.

  +
**'''Cruel Smash'''
**'''100 Mob Smash''': Makes the player to defeat 100 in all with 4 of them being normal fighters as you progress on.

  +
*'''Stadium'''
**'''Timed Smash''': Makes the player to defeat as many as possible within the time limit. Time limits can range from 1-15 minutes depending on the time selected.

  +
**'''Target Smash'''
**'''Endless Smash''': Makes the player to defeat as many as possible until the player is KO’d.

  +
**'''Target Blast'''
**'''Cruel Smash''': Similar to Endless Smash, the goal is to defeat as many as possible, however the opponents have great launching power and hard to launch them back. The player is easier to get launched and high handicaps are added to the player.

  +
**'''Home-Run Contest'''
*'''Stadium''': A few game modes have been added into this sub-menu. They are the following:

  +
**'''Boss Battles'''
**'''Target Smash''': 10 targets are placed around the stage based on the difficulty that was selected. Break them with the fastest time possible.

  +
**'''[[Adventure Mode: The Intermediate Realm|The Intermediate Realm]]'''
**'''Target Blast''': The objective is to rack up damage to a bomb and launch it to a large structure of objects and targets with the fastest time possible.

**'''Home-Run Contest''': The goal is to rack up damage to Sandbag and launch it as far as it can. Collectibles are also available in the ground and in the air if the Sandbag touches them.

==Characters==

==Characters==
''Super Smash Bros. Intensity'' contains a massive amount of playable characters (including alternate characters) on its base roster. No DLC characters are available. Due to how many characters are in the game, all characters are available at the start. Every fighter from previous Smash installments returns, with all of them receiving updated movesets.
+
With a cast of 400 playable characters, ''Super Smash Bros. Intensity'' has the most playable characters in the series. Unlike the previous installments, this is the first installment where all characters are available at the start, rather than being unlocked.

Characters are sorted by series by default. But there are options to sort them in order from Smash playable appearance, or alphabetical order. Players can also design their character selection screen from scratch.

Alternate costumes are available to all characters. They have 40 alternate costumes at the start. These are used to change the character's design, but won’t change the way they play.

  +
Of all the characters, the ''Kirby'' series has the most playable characters, with 19 playable if counting the number of slots. A high amount of third-party characters appears playable, as well as Nintendo characters from various franchises.

Super Smash Bros. Intensity (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズSDX, Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu Sūpā Derakkusu), sometimes called "SSBI" or "Intensity", is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series (sixth if 3DS and Wii U installments of Super Smash Bros. 4 are counted as separate titles). It was published by Nintendo and developed by Sora, Bandai Namco, and Activision. The game was released worldwide on May 26, 2017.

The gameplay had received several changes to make it unique comparing to other Super Smash Bros. installments. More notably the amount of ending lag was decreased for the cast, making combos nearly inexorable. It also introduced the most playable characters in the series and in gaming history, with 400 playable.

Super Smash Bros. Intensity received universal acclaim, citing it as one of the greatest fighting games of all time. Praising goes to the characters, gameplay, and quality of the game. The game sold a total of 42.71 million copies as of August 1, 2021.

Characters[]

With a cast of 400 playable characters, Super Smash Bros. Intensity has the most playable characters in the series. Unlike the previous installments, this is the first installment where all characters are available at the start, rather than being unlocked.

Of all the characters, the Kirby series has the most playable characters, with 19 playable if counting the number of slots. A high amount of third-party characters appears playable, as well as Nintendo characters from various franchises.
